I'm a disabled Navy Vet. The only job I had after the Navy was working
with vms on a vaxstation, I did database programming/admin stuff.

so now I have an AlphaServer ES40 (4 cpu) 4gb ram.

I am not sure what I want to do with the new set up now that I've
got it working with vms (had debian before).

I am thinking of perhaps offering remote access to dcl commands and
public_html space for users;

The login limit is apparently 64 users, I don't think i'd have that many
at any one time;

The Login limit is controlled by a SYSGEN parameter.

There are already several public access VMS systems around, more than I can immediately keep track of.

If you want to adopt one or more open source projects and help keep them current on VMS, that would be a help. In some cases all that is needed is to have a platform that does periodic "smoke" build/tests of the "blead" versions and report them back to other developers.

See the PORTING_TO_VMS conference on Encompasserve.org.

http://encompasserve.org/anon/htnotes/conf?f1=PORTING_TO_VMS

OpenVMS.ORG is tracking lists of VMS ports. A database that gives more detail about existing and in-progress ports that can be accessed from the web could also be useful.

Eisner was upgraded to the current Multinet Release. As part of that a new host key was generated. The old key was incompatible with newer Linux.

ssh to eisner is now giving (on linux) "WARNING: REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED!" , Has the server key in fact changed ?

HPE only makes the most current version of OpenVMS Alpha / IA64 /VAX available to hobbyists. When I had access to the Alliance 1 program it was the same. No public downloads are allowed by HPE.
