I am just dropping by to say hi and a little bit about myself...

While my work and school (College) history has always been dealing with *nix, I was actually brought up using vms while in high school (not suprisingly to most of you...it is near Boston). My high school (some 20 years ago) has a PDP, and the computer students would learn basic computer stuff like Visicalc and Pascal, using our VT terminals and (gasp!) printer for input. Eventually as a senior in high school I was given the task by the teacher to tutor younger students on vms.

Fast forward to some 15 years later and I managed to purchase a VAX. I joined the hobbyist program (and DECUS...my mebership ID was actually my name appreviation!). But I never got around to play with it because of I was too busy at work, and other stuff such as a very small apartment. I eventually got rid of the VAX.

So last year I moved from CA to NM, and our new house has plenty of space. I finally realized that I can run multiple computers at home and so I rejoined DECUS (Encompass). Got one of my Pelicans running OpenVMS. My other one runs Tru64...I am always a fan of that OS, and even taught UNIX to my assistant at work by having them install a Tru64 and learn how to run it.

It still shock me that how much I have forgotten after some 20 years of not touching (Open)VMS. It is like the twight zone because I actaully have no clues as to even type in a simple command, but then suddenly *zoom* some part of my memory comes back and I wrote an entire script quickly without much thought. Its like having to learn how to walk again.

The most excited feelings I had so far was managed to telnet into the Pelican using a Linux and managed to use EVE that way...(I do not have a monitor for the pelicans). Its like meeting your first love twenty years onwards

Anyway, I'd like to say hi to everyone. I am here to learn and also have fun.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
