I just stumbled onto this site and had to join. I started with VMS (3.x?) in 1980 when the DEC guy handed over the key to a new 11/780 and wished me luck. I'm still not sure how I convinced anyone to hire me with zero experience but I had to and did learn fast.
More recently, I've drifted into the Linux end of things but never really liked it, maybe battled to a draw is the best I can claim. Anyway, I've been living in Lagos, Nigeria for the past year and am back in California for this month and then permanently in July. Over there, I had tried to do some porting, starting with the APR as a basis for a subversion client. Yes, I know there is a Java svn client but I hate Java so much that I, well, I hate it.
It was pretty hard to get anything going over there, what with the power problems and all so I never got too far. Finding this site might revitalize the effort, even get the XP900 out of the garage and fire it up.
malmberg December 12 2017 HPE only makes the most current version of OpenVMS Alpha / IA64 /VAX available to hobbyists. When I had access to the Alliance 1 program it was the same. No public downloads are allowed by HPE.

malmberg September 10 2017 https://sourceforge.net/p /vms-ports/wiki/VMSInstal lation/ For the most part just use VMS 6.1 media instead of 7.3. But why run the older release?
