Hi Steve:
Yes, the system was working before, and I had just gotten to the point of entering some short DCL programs. My intention was to learn DCL better. When it failed it was an overnight thing. I have tried re-seating the boards but no luck. I will try again. I am very new at all this. I have no extra parts to speak of. Please explain: "moving to Alpha or integrity Itaniam or emulation replacing the box" also, the TK70 seems to work, is there a way to boot from MUA0, and where can I get a tape that would allow me to do so? Sorry for the ignorant questions, but I really am serious about all this. I am 60 yrs old, and this has become my project! Is there any way I can check the status of the drive or controller board from the system console mode at the >>> prompt? Do you know anyone in the Cleveland area who I might contact about this? My budget is small. I have 3 Compactape II cartridges 1 blank and 2 with what I believe are "turn key" programs on them. I was able to list the files on one of the tapes using$ backup/list MUA0:*.* before the system went down.

Thanks for all your help and patience
P.S. may I call you? or my number is (440) 885-0803
Best...................Wayne Verish

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
