I am intrested in OpenVMS mostly out of pure curiosity, i am usually a GNU/Linux user and quite happy with that life, but i seldom leave well enough alone and now i am registered on this forum.
My current goal with this endeavour is to try to set up a simple HTTP server and host a website. It seems liek a good test to explore installation of the OS, installations of applications, networking and configuration.
The virtual machine i usually use to test out operating systems is SUN's VirtualBox.
Now, the big question is, how do o join a usergroup and get a copy of the OS?
There is a active user group in Sweden, and people there who can assist.
You can run a VMS on a VAX emulator (SIMH/VAX) on linux or windows.
You can run VMS on a Alpha emulator (Stromasys CHARON-AXP Personal Alpha) on windows.
malmberg December 12 2017 HPE only makes the most current version of OpenVMS Alpha / IA64 /VAX available to hobbyists. When I had access to the Alliance 1 program it was the same. No public downloads are allowed by HPE.
