I am messing with FreeAXP to see if I can virtualize my existing Alpha 1000 and am having a bit of trouble getting the initial system loaded. I have been working with VMS for 30+ years so I am pretty familiar with image backups and setting up systems.

The issue I am having is that the target windows system doesn't have a CD/DVD drive and I only have TCPIP/FTP access between it and the Alpha. So I need to get a copy of the VMS Installation CD from the Alpha to some sort of container in the FreeAXP system so that I can boot standalone backup and restore the system disk.

I also have a similar question as to how best to get my image backup of the system disk to the FreeAXP system.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks, Bill

Use a Windows or Linux system that does have a CD/DVD drive to create an ISO of the VMS installation CD and copy it to the target platform.

Once I have an ISO of the CD, how do I get it to work with FreeAXP?

Also what about my other question about how best to get the image backup of the system disk into FreeAXP?

Thanks.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

See the forum about licensing. Don't know if HPE hobby licenses still being issued. Commercial licenses still being sold.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
