Hi

We have 2 Alphaserver ES40s running Tru64 Unix. They need to run a Java based application server called Resin which hosts our own java/jsp webapplication using Apache Struts and Oracle DB.

As the Java SDK is not being updated from 1.4.2 under Tru64 Unix we are stuck for upgrading Resin to more current support ed releases which require SDK 1.5.

I am considering switching to Open VMS to get some extra life out of the Alphaservers.

I will probably try things out on a DS10L we have, but thought I would ask if anyone has ever tried to run Caucho Resin on VMS and whether there are any gotchas before I embark on my adventure?

Also, if we did decide to go to openVMS what approximate licence fees are involved for each of the 4 CPU Alphas?

Any other comments on the wisdom or otherwise of this potential course of action would be welcome.

Regards

Alan

there are trade in programs. The rules are at
http://licensing.hp.com/swl/view.slm?page=xplasoft

java6 is now available for OpenVMS I64.

I have no idea what else you need for Resin. For a start see

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

See the forum about licensing. Don't know if HPE hobby licenses still being issued. Commercial licenses still being sold.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
