Good afternoon all,

I replaced Mozilla on my VMS box with Seamonkey 1.1.12 and Java150 and now I can no longer print. If I humbly ask Seamonkey to print it goes through the motions and the
following error is logged:

DCL-W-IVQUAL, unrecognized qualifier - check validity, spelling, and placement
\TMP\

Now that might be helpful if I saw the command that inspired such a response.

Meanwhile, the same log periodically says this:

LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /sys$common/cswb/plugins/libjava
plugin_oji.so [OpenVMS status is decimal 98962

and decimel 98962 translates to:

richardlo $ write sys$output f$message(98962)
%RMS-E-FNF, file not found

again that would be more useful if I knew what file we were talking about.

Any ideas how to start diagnosing this little caprice?

It is using a command with the first argument of the form

/tmp/xxxxxxxx.tmp

which it creates in your sys$scratch: (I think), which is usually the same as sys$login:

I defined the print command in

[._MOZILLA.DEFAULT.your_salt_folder]PREFS.JS

by adding the line

user_pref("print.printer_PostScript/default.print_command", "ghostprint "smiley;

wher I have the symbol ghostprint defied in my LOGIN.COM to be

$ GHOSTPRINT:==$DISK$USERS:[wherever]GSPRINT.EXE

and the GSPRINT.EXE is a simple C program I wrote which strips off the /tmp/ and passes the arguments to a file called GSPRINT.COM which enables me to print on an HP deskjet printer, and looks similar to this

$ SET VER
$ IF F$SEARCH(P1).EQS.""
$ THEN
$ WRITE SYS$OUTPUT "Can't find ''P1' - please specify the correct file name"
$ EXIT
$ ELSE
$ file_spec = "''P1'"
$ file_type = F$PARSE(file_spec,,,"TYPE"smiley
$ ENDIF
$ IF file_type.EQS.".PS" .OR. file_type.EQS."." .OR. file_type.EQS.".TMP"
$ THEN
$! Use GhostScript to generate file from PostScript
$! Use colour deskjet driver
$ gs "-sDEVICE=cdj550" "-dBitsPerPixel=16" "-dShingling=0" "-dDepletion=1" "-
$ P1 = "SYS$SCRATCH:''file_name'.dj"
$ PRINT/DELETE/PASSALL 'P1'
$ ENDIF
$ EXIT

You may want to add some lines to tidy up the temporary files which result.

Hope this helps.

HPE only makes the most current version of OpenVMS Alpha / IA64 /VAX available to hobbyists. When I had access to the Alliance 1 program it was the same. No public downloads are allowed by HPE.

https://sourceforge.net/p
/vms-ports/wiki/VMSInstal
lation/ For the most part just use VMS 6.1 media instead of 7.3. But why run the older release?
