Is there an exhaustive list out there that shows all the versions of OpenVMS or VMS that have been released for the VAX? The official docs and the wikipedia article doesn't show all versions that have been released. For example, I can't find anything about VMS 5.3, only VMS 4.x. Thanks for any information given. Perhaps this should be a FAQ?

Is there a particular problem you aer trying to solve? Yes there was a V5.3 as well as 5.0, 5.1 and 5.2. V5.4 had a few variants as well.

A quick google search revealed http://h71000.www7.hp.com/openvms/os/openvms-release-history.html. It lists all versions since 4.0. It doesn't indicate which platforms are targeted, though.

I was trying to build up a picture of what layered products would run on which VMS versions, that's all. I need to find UCX (TCP/IP) for VMS 5.3. And I wanted to collect all the last versions in each major release of VMS, for example, VMS 4.7, VMS 5.5, VMS 6.2, VMS 7.3 etc. Is this do-able?

I can check the software product libraries for V5.3 (I still have them all) and will post here. As far as the major releases go:

V5.5 should be V5.5-2
V6.2 had a couple of hardware releases (V6.2-1h1, V6.2-1h2)
V7.3 should be the last of V7.3-2

I'll see what I can find.

The links on this page:

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/openvms/os/swroll/index.html

will probably be helpful, as well. I don't remember how far back the information goes, but a quick look shows an Excel-type spreadsheet containing some of the information you are looking for.

Some of the UCX versions will install and work on earlier versions of VMS than stated in their SPDs.

With the older UCX, you may need to have images from multiple kits, as in one case I think I had to use an older rcp image from a version where rcp was supplied as experimental and not supported, because the rcp in the later version(s) that was supported did not work. Copying the older image was the only work around that I found.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
