I have finally managed to find the time and the relevant pieces of software etc. to build a SIMH environment on a Raspberry PI and managed to get a MicroVAX3900 environment up and running. I have also managed top install VMS 5.5-2. It has take a bit of time, but all good...

I've been wanting to recreate the environment I worked on as a student at University and also that of my first job post university where I did some systems management in addition to other roles.

Now the problem is PAKS. I cannot find how to acquire them - it appears they are no longer available under the hobbyist programme for VMS 5.5-2 and associated languages such as basic, fortran, Cobol etc. (that I also wanted to configure and play once again with). It appears you can get the PAKS for Alpha, but that's not what I',m after.

Does anyone have any suggestions or can offer me any advice/support - really stuck, and its taken me a long time to get to this point...

Any help would be very gratefully received?

Bets wishes
Martin

The licenses and paks are available for commercial use directly from HPE. I am told that they are $300 US for each PAKs.

I do not know if the combo PAKs are available like the NET_APP_XXXXX licenses enable most of the networking that you would need.

I do not have the contact handy. Someone on comp.os.vms can probably help there.

So can I infer from this thread that there are no longer hobbiest PAKs being issued.

If that's so it's such a shame smiley

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
