My name is Arvid, I'm a 36 y/o ICT Consultant, happily married and proud father of 3 kids.
In my professional life I specialize in designing and implementing monitoring/management solutions. I am specialized in OpenView software, but have experience with other tools as well.
Over the past few years I have come across OpenVMS a few times and it was the only mainstream OS that I didn't know how to deal with.
So I decided to teach myself OpenVMS. Early 2005 I bought myself a second-hand AlphaServer 1000, but that proved to be not perfectly alright. Since then I have been given a few more systems, but these too weren't working well. So 2 months ago I bough myself a beautiful AlphaServer 1200, with two EV56 CPU's @ 533 MHz, 2 GB of memory and lots of 36 GB disks.
Since last week I have dismantled my Intel-based Linux system which had been serving as my home-based web- and mail server for the past few years, and took the AS1200 into "production", although there's still a lot to learn. Right now I am making at least one good system out of my 3 AS1000's, so that it can function as a development server.
I never have to heat the attic again it seems, and my marriage suffers some stress lately  , but I'm enjoying myself very much with OpenVMS/Alpha !
malmberg December 12 2017 HPE only makes the most current version of OpenVMS Alpha / IA64 /VAX available to hobbyists. When I had access to the Alliance 1 program it was the same. No public downloads are allowed by HPE.

malmberg September 10 2017 https://sourceforge.net/p /vms-ports/wiki/VMSInstal lation/ For the most part just use VMS 6.1 media instead of 7.3. But why run the older release?
DoeveR August 07 2017 Where can I find the write up on running VMS 6.1 using the simh emulator?
