Hi

I used DEC VMS systems in the 1970/80s and obtained a dec multia vx41 recently. I'd like to put openVMS on this workstation.
Ive read about the required boot upgrade, hobby license and openvms cd.

The machine I have has a floppy drive but no CD.

If anyone has any tips about download software sources and installing openvms on this machine then maybe they could respond.

Thanks

Fixit.

See the hobby registrations for license keys.

Unfortunately older versions are not available from the HP hobbyist download site.

I do not know that the special sauce for Multia made it into the 8.x releases.

Normally if you can get a VAX or Alpha emulator configured as a cluster, you can network boot another VAX or Alpha to it as a LAVC cluster member.

Have to do some manual hacks to get that to work cross platform or cross version.

Multia is last known to boot VMS 7.2-2 with special multia update patch that will fit on a floppy.

There are reports of people getting the multia update patch to work with Alpha VMS 7.3.

You might want to see on comp.os.vms newsgroup if someone near you can help sneakernet the stuff needed.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

See the forum about licensing. Don't know if HPE hobby licenses still being issued. Commercial licenses still being sold.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
