FAQ:

1. How do I get a membership number?

Join any participating user group or join Decuserve/Encompasserve.

Telnet or SSH to eisner.encompasserve.org and register.
Eisner is a VMS system with a community of users.

2. How do I get Hobbyist License Keys?

The new link is:
https://www.hpe.com/h41268/live/index_e.aspx?qid=24548

An alternative link that still may work is below, this just resubmits to HPE.

http://plato.ccsscorp.com/hobbyist_registration.php is the backup link for
getting license keys.

At this time https://www.vmssoftware.com/ has not announced a hobbyist program.
Online posts have indicated that one is in their eventual plans.

3. How do I get media?

When you get your Hobbyist License Keys, there will be instructions on how
to request a temporary password to the media download site.

While ECO kits are not individually available, I am told that rollup kits
are added periodically.

4. Commercial Development?

The hobby license limits what you can do with the machine that you install the
license keys on. It does not affect what you do with the knowledge that you
learn from it.

You can not charge for software that you create/maintain on a hobbyist
machine.

For commercial use, formerly there was an Alliance One program from HPE. This program
has been replaced. I do not have information on the replacement.

Contact https:/www.vmssoftware.com about commercial development programs for their
newer releases of OpenVMS.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
