Hello,

I've got 2 HP-branded SCSI-320 10K hot-pluggable disks and am trying to use them in my rx1620. Technical specification of rx1620 states that only 15K drives are supported. Does that mean that 10K drives generally won't work?

I upgraded to the lastest EFI and MP firmware. EFI doesn't show me any SCSI devices. Am I missing something here?

Any clues?

Thank you very much in advance!

Best regards
Bert

P.S.: The disks were taken out from a HP 9000 storage array.
ODI doesn't show the disks either. Both channels of the internal SCSI controller are working.

That's a rather strange issue, I must say. Are the part numbers of the HDDs identical to what HP offers for the Integrity and Disk System/Storage Array line of systems?

Anyway, all [U320] SCSI HDDs, unless with physical defects (needless to say, of course), have so far worked for me in my rx2600s. Those have even included non-HP/Compaq HDDs, both 10K and 15K RPM models, thus without HP/Compaq or Integrity-specific firmware. (Or perhaps this is something specific to the rx1600/rx1620? Although that would be awkward.)

As for the EFI issue. Do other HDDs, that used to work before(?), not work anymore either? Have you tried checking the SCSI cabling? Maybe the SCSI backplane is faulty?

If firmware might really do the trick, check out the HP Services Tools CD. I recall it has all sorts of HDD firmware stored on it. Maybe reflashing will do the trick.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
