I have my alpha running on a computer that has 5 network ports the alpha has 2 the computer at the moment has 1 with 4 left unused .. Oh i am running alphavm-free.. I can connect to the alpha from ubuntu and i can connect from ubuntu to the alpha but i cant transfer any data. I have managed to create a directory from both to both but i still can not transfer any data. Please Help
On your emulated alpha host, you need to make sure that the host's firewall is not blocking your communications on both the
Generally when a firewall is involved, you need to use PASV (passiive) mode. The default for many programs is PORT (active) mode. The FTP server must also be configured to support passive mode, and the firewall for the server needs to allow the same range of ports as the server.
Consider using SFTP instead.
SCP on VMS is generally not compatible with the native SCP on linux clients, reports are that the putty SCP tools which should be available in the Ubuntu repository will work with VMS.
Some how it fixed its self. it may be i was trying to ftp from ubuntu to and from vms on the same computer. have several network cards in that machine it just would not work have not tried it since but i can connect to it from my notebook works fine
malmberg December 12 2017 HPE only makes the most current version of OpenVMS Alpha / IA64 /VAX available to hobbyists. When I had access to the Alliance 1 program it was the same. No public downloads are allowed by HPE.
