Can anyone share their experiences using SIMH as a VAX platform. I'm particularly interested in stability aspects, and whether there are bits that 'just don't work'. I've experienced the odd issue, but it could be that the problem lay with me and/or the install rather than SIMH itself.

Regards, Mark.

I do not admit to being the world's greatest website navigator smiley

But I could not find your SIMH notes on the hoffmanlabs.com site.

I've run SIMH on several Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, Gentoo) systems and currently, I am using it on an hx4700 iPAQ. On such a limited device, storage and RAM are the main concerns. There's also something weird going on with libpcap and the wireless interface: libpcap puts the wireless into promiscuous mode but it still sends and receives on the original address, leading to duplicate packets (from the emulation and the host). I wrote a document about it. http://brooknet.no-ip.com/~lex/public/OpenVMS_iPAQ/ Even with the issues mentioned, it's cool being able to carry a VAX around.. and an Altair 8800, PDP/1 etc.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
