I have not implemented and experimented with SIMH for a long time.
Nor have I done much diligent research in the meantime!
I read somewhere that regardless of how quiet (even halted) the guest operating system in SIMH is, the CPU in the host OS is pretty much maxed out with the process running SIMH.
If that's the case and you wanted to run an emulated VMS 24X7, then cooling efficacy in the rig would have to be examined.
