This may be nothing. I just installed 4 compilers on FreeAXP off the OpenVMSHobbyist Alpha Kit CD: C++, Basic, Pascal and Fortran. The installs went well.
The only problem was when I installed the CXML extension library to the FORTRAN compiler using "Product Install CXML disk:[directory]".
As the last part of the install, after completing the CXML library installation, the installation tests the CXML.
The following product has been installed:
DEC AXPVMS CXML V5.2-1 Layered Product
PCSI-I-IVPEXECUTE, executing test procedure for DEC AXPVMS CXML V5.20-1...
You see the "emulator units" on the FreeAXP emulator drop from the 120 - 130 range down into the 50's. I expected that since I assume as part of the testing, the processor is crunching test routines. However, after 15 minutes without progress, I controlled/interrupted out of it.
Anyone else seeing the CXML install hang at the test point?
Best Regards,
Patrick

I'm just guessing here, but is it possible to install without testing? It used to be (a long, long time ago) that testing routines were optional, and could be deferred as a separate step. If it is possible to do so, I would suggest de-installing, then re-installing without the test. The installation procedures for most products (used to) tell you how to run the tests, post-install. That way, it would be easier to monitor the process running the test, to see if the process loops or hangs while running. You could even take a crash dump, and if you have a support contract, have HP analyse the dump.
malmberg March 24 2018 Probably. More people hang out on the comp.os.vms newsgroup.
vaxpert March 23 2018 I have a PE42A and other Alpha system stuff for sale. I'm in So California. Any interest out there?

malmberg December 12 2017 HPE only makes the most current version of OpenVMS Alpha / IA64 /VAX available to hobbyists. When I had access to the Alliance 1 program it was the same. No public downloads are allowed by HPE.
