Hi,

I've got DS10 machine with an external Adaptec AIC-78xx SCSI card. There is an OpenVMS 7.2-2 system which is running perfectly.
I want to backup the disk. I need a new boot system. I've got OpenVMS 7.3-1 and 8.4 install CD-s. SRM can see the card and disk(s) as PKA0 (and DKAx).
My backaup disk and the install CDs can't see the PKA device at all!

I checked the v7.2-2 and there is a SYS$PKQDRIVE_EXE.V722-1 in the SYS$LDR directory. I think that's why the system is working. I don't have v7.2-x OpenVMS install disk/CD!

How can I backup the disk? Is the only one possibility is STABACKIT?

TIA,

There is no stabackit for Alpha / Itanium systems.

Are you saying when you boot the OpenVMS 8.4 CD-ROM, that the booted system can not see the SCSI drives at all?

Have you tried going to the command prompt from booting from the CD-ROM and issuing the command I remember as:

mcr sysman io autoconfigure

When you boot from the CD-ROM, it boots a minimal configuration and does not prove the IO system. The io autoconfigure command loads the drivers for the discovered devices.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

I'm looking for DECdfs V2.4A kit for VAX. Asking here just in case anyone is still listening.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

See the forum about licensing. Don't know if HPE hobby licenses still being issued. Commercial licenses still being sold.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
