Hello

I have an DEC Workstation 433au. The SRM bios says the video card is a "Digital TGA2 Graphics Controller". OpenVMS version is 7.3-2.

When the computer boots normally, the screen goes blank. Clearly its an invalid graphics mode. I also borrowed my friend's 17" monitor. It can do a maximum of 1600x1200x60Hz. Another nice feature is that it displays an error message when the video mode is invalid:

HF 93.7kHz (supported range 30 - 85)
VF 75Hz (supported range 47 - 160)

Clearly the Horizontal Frequency is invalid.

I tried modifying SYS$MANAGER:DECW$PRIVATE_SERVER_SETUP.COM (copied from template). I put in the following:

$ decw$xsize_in_pixels == 800
$ decw$ysize_in_pixels == 600
$ define/exec/system/nolog decw$server_pixel_depth 8
$ define/exec/system/nolog decw$server_refresh_rate 60

I put them at the start of the file. I put it at the end of the file. I put it in the workstation section after $DO_DEFAULT (about line 585). They have not fixed the problem.

Can anyone help?

Thank you

Hello

Thank you very much. I found the rotary switch and it now works.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know why the card has a rotary switch? My parents first computer was a 286... I remember the VGA video card could change resolutions without using jumpers / switches. So why is the PowerStorm so primitive????

Thank you

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

See the forum about licensing. Don't know if HPE hobby licenses still being issued. Commercial licenses still being sold.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
