I'm seeing some disk errors on my Alpha. These are Fujitsu drives, not anything VMS knows any details about. It is using them as generic SCSI disks. I suspect the errors might just be revectoring of bad sectors during a shadow resynch but I'd like to see what the errors were.
ANAL/ERR/ELV doesn't translate the error log entries. I've been doing some searches and found DECEvent and WEBES but can't find any downloads.
Is there something that might be able to translate these error log entries? If it's not included with VMS, where can I find a download?
If SHOW ERROR is listing disk errors, then odds are your disk drive is on the way out. I recommend the following actions:
- Take a good image backup of the drive.
- Run ANALYZE/DISK/REPAIR, or better yet, install DFU (http://www.digiater.nl/dfu.html) and use its analysis tools.
- Reboot to clear the error count.
If you continue to see errors on a regular basis, plan on replacing the drive.
