Dear Hobbyists,

I recently acquired a VAXStation 3100/30 with VMS 5.5 installed. The licenses are expired. So I got new Hobbyist Licenses and registered VAX-VMS by hand on the console.

Logon at the console works, but when I try to logon using a serial connection (using PuTTY), It always looks like this:

Welcome to VAX/VMS V5.5-2H4

Username: SYSTEM
No license is active for this software product

Do I have to activate some more license in order to be able to use serial login?

Thank you!

Best regards
Bert

Thank you very much Stephen! I finally found a solution. On startup, the system had been unable to load my VAX-VMS license: "%LICENSE-W-AMBIG, information provided was ambiguous; multiple licenses were found". Before installing the Hobbyist PAK for VAX-VMS, I should have done a "LICENSE DELETE /STATUS=EXTINCT *" or something.

What I had to do now:

$ LICENSE DELETE/ALL VAX-VMS
$ LICENSE REGISTER VAX-VMS -
...
$ LICENSE LOAD

that fixed my problem smiley

Still I could not paste my other licenses into a serial connection window (PuTTY). After a few lines, input was blocked. "SET TERM/NOTTSYNC" didn't help. Do you have any idea which settings I should use in order to be able to paste larger amounts of text to a serial terminal emulation?

Best regards
Bert

What you need to do is boost the TTY_TYPAHDSZ parameter, which is the size of the buffer you're essentially pasting into. It's probably better to get enough of network up so you can FTP the rest of the data across. Cut-and-paste is sometimes a little dicey.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

See the forum about licensing. Don't know if HPE hobby licenses still being issued. Commercial licenses still being sold.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
