Hi guys,
Is it OK to use VMS without a firewall esp. for a standalone system?
I will be using it to browse the internet and emails.. I am not using it as a server only as a workstation.
According VMS experts, I had been reading articles that VMS is sooooooo secure, that no additional security installations are needed on the system. Hence, the VMS security architecture is much more secure than OpenBSD or the MAC OS X....
Also, is there a documentation that explains why VMS is so secure? What makes it so secure?
Thanks in advance. |

The key difference with VMS is that security was designed in from the beginning. You don't need anti-virus software.
You can use VMS without a firewall but if you have a service on a well known port like http or ssh then it will get hit often. This will use more resources on your system which can be a problem on hobbyist systems which are often based on older slower hardware.
I would use a basic separate firewall just to keep my hobbyist system from spending resources ignoring all the unwanted connections. |

So much of Campbell's Soup, but good thing that the VMS is so secure that no additional security installations are needed on the system. Plus, I love to hear that you can fully-browse without using firewall. Hopefully, many would also used this.
