Hello

I really dont mean to be a rebel or an outlaw for asking this. Charon has retired the es40 emulator for linux. I was wondering if i could ask for a copy of that since it was free at that time. I would like to play with the alpha as well. I thought for a small amount of time that simh would do it but no it wont. so if someone could help me out please send me an url or an ftp that i can download the es40 from. Please.

thanks in advance.
if this is not ok to ask for then i have made a mistake and i am sorry for doing this. It was free.

i put this in the wrong forum how do i move it ???????

An ES40 is an Alpha, not a VAX. The VAX is an older 32 bit platform that VMS can run on. VAX/VMS development ended a while back, but Alpha and Integrity continues.

Stromasys web site still shows a http://www.stromasys.ch/virtualization-solutions/charon-axp-on-linux/ available for free Non-Commercial and Educational use. As of today, it is not in their retired product list on their web page.

They also indicate that the NCE versions are timebombed, and need to be refreshed with an upgrade periodically.
So even if someone gave you an older copy it might be closer to the expiration date than a fresh download.

There are at least two other suppliers of Alpha Emulators that are free for hobby use if you look in the Emulated Alpha section of this forum.

A moderator can move this to the correct forum, after you have time to read the reply.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

See the forum about licensing. Don't know if HPE hobby licenses still being issued. Commercial licenses still being sold.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
