I'm running OpenVMS 7.3 under SIMH 4.0 beta on a Raspberry Pi (no, seriously, stop sniggering).

You can read full details of how I configured the basic system here.

And how I configured networking here.

The networking is basically working. I can ping out from the simulated VAX using:

$ TCPIP PING google.com

So the bridging is working. But, although I've enabled Telnet services on the VAX, connection is being refused. The annoying thing is that this worked yesterday, and then it stopped today.

I'm using bridging on the RPi, with the VAX's XQA0 being connected to a tap0 virtual device.

During bootup of OpenVMS, telnet appears to get started okay.

%TCPIP-S-STARTDONE, TCP/IP Services startup completed at 24-MAR-2016 09:22:30.96

Going into the TCP/IP config utility shows Telnet as being enabled and started.

Any suggestions as to where I might start looking? I'm a total newcomer to VMS. I don't think there's any firewall on the RPi (and like I said, it worked yesterday).

1. Check show intrus
2. Check to make sure sylogin.com has world execute permission. Note that a logical name can (SHOULD!) override the default name.
3. An error in SYLOGIN can cause the login to fail.
4. An error in the user's login.com can cause the login to fail.
5. Can the user write to their home directory.
6. Check the accounting records, you may have to enable some.

If it worked, then quit, it will be in your network infrastructure. On the VMS side, shutdown TCP/IP and try re-running UCX$CONFIGURE.COM. On the PI side, rebuild the network connections.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
