Anyone got any thoughts on why disks on a HSZ70 controller pair would suddenly start throwing disks into mount verification?

One particular disk is reproducible in that if you run ANALYZE/DISK across it, it'll repeatedly go into mount verify.

A disk that was replaced (on the assumption that it had failed) spent about 2 days online, then again went mount verify, timed out, then offline. It still mounts on the other host on the shared bus quite happily.

VMS v6.2-1h3, 2 off AS4100, HSZ70 pair between the hosts.

The systems have been happy as a happy thing until this spurt of disk issues.

Doesn't sound like the disk at this point. If this is the only one affected, then look at anything else unique to this drive. Perhaps a bad tray slot, controller or even a marginal power supply. Try swapping parts around. See what changes or moves.

Thanks Dan.
It turned out that one of the disks was part of a stripeset with one failed disk. I still haven't got to the bottom of the disk that went mount verify and then timed out. At the moment, it seems fine so I'm keeping my head down!

You've just experienced warnings of imminent hardware failure. Make sure backups are up-to-date and starting implementing a storage replacement plan.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

I'm looking for DECdfs V2.4A kit for VAX. Asking here just in case anyone is still listening.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

See the forum about licensing. Don't know if HPE hobby licenses still being issued. Commercial licenses still being sold.

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
