I'm looking for ssh for VAX.
I Installed OPENVMAS 7.3
On the Hobbyist CD there is only TCPIP Services 5.1 without SSH.
Therefore I have to connect to the VAX by using TELNET.
If I try to "export" X like

SET DIS/CRE/TRA=TCPIP/NODE=192.168,2,150
RUN SYS$SYSTEMsmileyECW$CLOCK

The Display cannot be opened (I think due to security).

I run into the same situation using my Alpha using TELNET.

When I bought the VAX it came with VMS 5.5-2.
If I boot that system, I can start X-Applications using the same commands and of cause the same X-Sever.

????

Maybe I can configure the DECWindows in any kind of way to work.

I would be glad to get any kind of solution.

Thanks for your help

I don't know what is actually available but under the new system I think you need to email John Egolf of HP who is administering licensing and software downloads, I believe

Bit late here but briefly I spent 'some time' a while ago, getting SSH to work to allow me to connect from my Ubuntu Linux PC to the OVMS 8.3 Alpha - using my sort of keep trying things till it works approach (stuff I wouldn't dare do on a live system)

Just getting an SSH connection (as I understand your problem) from PC to Vax (or Alpha) doesn't require DEC Windows to be running (if I recall) just setting things at the Alpha end using TCPIP Configuration and modifying some files on the PC UBUNTU system.

I guess 'CREATE TERM' is the simplest thing one can do once DEC Windows is running but I found that nothing would work until I had TCPIP BIND service running and used the TCPIP setup service "SET NAMESERVICE" AND "SET CONF NAMESERVICE" to relate static addresses to server names.

here's a related Vax / Decwindows thread which may shed some light:

By default now, most X-11 servers are blocking hosts that are not in their acceptance list.
A utility, I think from my faulty memory: xauth is used to allow hosts in.

I am not aware of ssh for VAX available from HP, but the Multinet stack from Process Software may have it, and they have hobbyist licenses.

No more VAX hobbyist licenses. Community licenses for Alpha/IA64/X86_64 VMS Software Inc. Commercial VMS software licenses for VAX available from HPE.

Just re-visiting.. No more hobbyist licenses? Is that from vmssoftware.com, no 'community' licenses?

I recall that the disks failed on the public access VMS systems that included Fafner

Anyone know what happened to FAFNER.DYNDS.ORG? I had a hobbyist account here but can longer access the site.

At one time, didn't this web site have a job board? I would love to use my legacy skills one last time in my career.

New Hobbyist PAKs for VAX/VMS are no longer available according to reports. Only commercial licenses are reported to be for sale from HPE

Eisner, which is currently being moved, got an SSH update and the keys were updated to more modern encryption standards.
