I did setup a DNS server (based on my simple knowledge), and following some hp manuals. I must review them all...
I got the XDM log, and no login Xwindow. Could anyone explain what is this message. I see no errors. But nothing happens...
TIA

Hi, Hoff.
It is a very simple, small, home network, nothing more. I´m trying set it up to get graphics, since I´ve tried DW and I saw something in XDM log file meaning to convert IP to host name. I realized that XDM needs that. So I´m typing, reading, searching for info on set DNS server up...afterall, it seems to be ok (or not ), but I didnt understand the message I got. It told me not too much...
I got here through DNS howto from linux as a sample. It worked once, under slackware when I needed, and that was not so complicated. Maybe some misconfiguration, maybe some missing info/file...
But I´ll keep going...
Thanks, I´ll take a review on my work.
Huh....
Even I didnt undertand very clear what you are telling me...I´ll check this out...
I found some info about one specific error I got. Fixed, but not a quite success.
Ok, Hoff.
I must thank you.
I know it is a bit heavy posting pieces from screen messages, but, I´d like to show how is my (mis)configuration...and...yes, I´ll take a time to review all this stuff you told me (I´m already on that).
Step by step, things will be in right place... below some excerpt from my box. I´ve marked some lines with "<---??" as you can see. Cheers.

So you configured mydom.nom and 1.168.192.in-addr.arpa as slave zones, i.e. there's supposed to be a master server that these zones can be copied from from time to time. But: you didn't configure a master server, so when it's time to copy...

And another thing:
Tue 13 01:13:11 INFORMATIONAL: forwarding source address is [0.0.0.0].0
You got to tell your BIND server what to do if it has to resolve a host name that it doesn't know about. This is called "forwarding": the BIND server is given the IP address of another BIND server it can ask - it forwards the request to another system.
My suggestion would be to forget about BIND (i.e. go into TCPIP$CONFIG and disable BIND). Next, go into "1 - Core" and "4 - BIND Resolver" and enter your ISP's BIND server.
%TCPIP-E-BIND_NOSERVERS, default servers are not available <---???
%TCPIP-W-NORECORD, information not found<---???
-TCPIP-E-BIND_NOSERVERS, default servers are not available<---???
This stems from the fact that TCPIP SHOW HOST doesn't only list the local hosts information, but also tries to contact the BIND server for information. If you only want to see local hosts info, use TCPIP SHOW HOST /LOCAL.
