After much frustration and waiting I have Perl 5.6.2 installed (I've made my build available too), now I've started on getting CPAN working so installed LWP et al.
My problem is: When CPAN tries to download 01mailrc.txt.gz it doesn't go through the VMS path translation module and I end up with the following error:

Am I missing something here? I don't want to go hacking through LWP/Protocol.pm to fix paths so they're VMS acceptable, but I'm stumped as to how on earth this works on other VMS systems.
I'm running OpenVMS 7.3/VAX, Perl 5.6.2 and whatever the latest LWP (and it's deps) versions are.
CPAN isn't really essential, but it will save a huuuge amount of my time .
